I have worked on this series of novels for almost thirty years. Not intentionally, you understand. Quite by accident. I wrote the second while living in Prague in 1998. The third—and then the first—emerged in the early 2000s, while living and loving in Canada. Then darkness descended, and the love and the stories fell into shadow.

I hope this dystopian weave of science fiction and fantasy will find the light one day—either by entering a final death, where I think about the novels no more, or by being published in a state fit for you to read. For the elves who sing and the automata that disintegrate deserve to live in your mind. For decades they have lived in mine, dictating plots, arguing about endings, whispering that my way is not the right way. Perhaps they will decide how the story will end…
